Before heading down to South Carolina for a wedding and seeing grandma's we decided to take some time as a family and headed to the beach. We were going to go to Myrtle Beach, Dan had even booked us a rental home, and then we found out it was BIKE WEEK. Change of plans. We decided to go to the Outterbanks in NC. We stayed in the small town of Avon for 4 days and 3 nights. The house was very large, complete with a hot tub, and a view of the ocean!
After our long drive we were ALL eager to see the ocean!
Jake's face in this one says it all...WHAOH!
This was Abby's first experience with the ocean and sand. HILARIOUS! She was terrified for the first day!
All wet...Tess fell in and Jake dove in.
Sand Dunes on a gorgeous day!
Abby's mode of transportation, still terrified of sand.
I worked with Abby to help her ease into touching the sand while Dan helped the kids put together their kites.
It was a windy, perfect kite flying day. Dan and Jake worked so hard to get this kite to fly! Sadly, it just wouldn't cooperate.
Tess was in absolute running heaven! She ran and ran and smiled and giggled!
MUSIC to my ears!!
Tess and I had success with Abby...she now LOVES sand!
And we have take-off!
Jake and Tess slid down the dunes on their tummies! I love Jakes legs in this picture!
All that running in the sandy sun wore them out!!
Lots of BEACH time!
On our short walk to the board walk leading out to the beach Abby fell down and skinned up her knees...this happened several times to the same leg! She still points to her "owie" when I change her diaper. She didn't let it stop her from having fun!
The waves crashed loudly and hard, enough so that Tess was too scared to go into the water very much. As long as we were holding her hand she'd get her feet wet but that's about it. She and I enjoyed building in the sand.
Jake loved the water but not as much as just being with his Dad!
Cloudy Sunrise with donuts and juice!
Cape Hatteras Light House
This lighthouse is the largest in North America. The kids had to be 42 inches tall and able to climb the 12 flights up stairs up and down on their own. Jake and Tess were very proud of themselves! I stayed on the ground with Abby.
The calm Sound
The last afternoon in we headed to the Sound to watch people para-sailing and wind- surfing...the water was just what the girls needed. I love how Jake and Tess are helping Abby. The kids got along so well this trip! More beach please:)
Abby continued to go deeper and deeper into the water.
Dan kissing Ms. Tess
Abby fell in...
Vacation Tradition of ICE CREAM every single day! We stopped in Buxton to eat the best custard ever at Uncle Eddy's...oh soooo good!
Feeding the Seagulls
We balled up bread and threw it up in the air. The seagulls dove pretty low and ate a ton...I was sure we'd get pooped on! The kids loved it, of course this was Dan's idea!
The trip was awesome. Just what we needed! It was a peaceful and relaxing time together. This was our first time back to the beach in 3 and 1/2 years, and now we have decided this will definitely be an annual family trip!
